The vaccine is important for the world to return to normality, as it stops the COVID-19 disease. However, all over the world, there are people who refuse to take it, jeopardizing the fight against the SARS-CoV-2 virus. There are cities in the US that are giving people incentives to get the vaccine. One such case is the city of Washington, DC.
Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that AirPods and iPads will be offered to encourage teens to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
A vaccine in exchange for AirPods or iPads…
With the advent of vaccines, the world started to fight the spread of the disease and the cases of patients with severe cases of COVID-19 decreased radically. However, although most people are accepting the vaccine, there are still some who refuse.
To vaccinate as many people as possible, some countries are offering all sorts of incentives to convince people to be vaccinated.
There were those who offered money, beer, joints, guns and discount cards on a wide range of services. The US is, without a shadow of a doubt, the biggest promoter of the vaccine and gives a lot of money to encourage its citizens to protect themselves.
Washington DC wants to increase the percentage of people vaccinated
The latest fad was announced by the Washington DC state governor who will be offering Apple’s AirPod headphones.
So, to increase COVID-19 vaccination among young people, the Mayor announced that the city will distribute AirPods, gift cards or a $25,000 scholarship to those who receive their first inoculation.
According to what has been learned , people between the ages of 12 and 17 who are vaccinated at Brookland MS, Sousa MS, or Johnson MS will receive AirPods with their first vaccine and a chance to win a grant. $25,000 study, plus iPads, among other prizes.
In a Twitter post, Mayor Bowser explains that “there are 3 locations available for vaccinations. Afterwards, vaccinated youths will be able to choose between AirPods or a gift card.

- This must be your first COVID-19 photo;
- You must have a parent or legal guardian with you;
- You must bring your school ID, DC One Card, Kids Ride Free card, grade report, or proof of enrollment.
- A parent/guardian of the student receives a gift card per child who receives their first COVID-19 vaccine on the Youth Vaccine Giveaway website.
The disease does not disappear for people who refuse to take
According to data from Johns Hopkins University, about 70% of District residents have been fully vaccinated, although in DC an upward trend is being observed in the number of new cases of COVID-19.
The District of Columbia is not the only place to give cash prizes and other gifts to those who are vaccinated, it is also the case in states such as Maryland, Michigan, and Ohio.
During these last few weeks, some cities in the USA have returned to the mandatory use of indoor masks. Apple, for example, has reintroduced mask requirements in most US retail stores.
