HMD Global has launched Nokia’s first RUGGED smartphone, the Nokia XR20. When you think about Nokia phones the first image that probably comes to mind is the indestructible 3310 or maybe the iconic Nokia N8 which tried to bring the same toughness and durability into the touchscreen era. The New Nokia XR20 has Military Grade Certification.
The Newly announced Nokia XR20 seems to be a modern take on such a device. It tries to combine between extreme durability and a nice design something that is definitely not on offer currently with rugged devices. Also unlike most rugged smartphones it’s pretty feature packed so you don’t have to sacrifice the modern features just for the extra toughness.

5 Special Features of Nokia XR20
So here are the top five features that make the Nokia XR20 a special device.
With the build nokia mobile went above and beyond with the XR20. So they fitted the display with Gorilla Glass victus something that isn’t usually found except on flagship devices. You can even use the display even if you have wet hands or you’re wearing gloves. The back is made out of a grippy 3D Nano Textured rear cover. It won’t allow the color to fade over time and it keeps the device protected. There is even a Lanyard hole at the bottom of the device and a Red reprogrammable button at the top. Pretty Cool!
With Military Grade certification the Nokia XR20 should be able to withstand drops of up to 1.8 meters. It’s also IP68 rated. So it’s dust, sand, dirt and water resistant. It can also withstand scorching or freezing temperatures.
So anything between Minus 20 degrees celsius all the way up to 55 degrees celsius which is perfect for us around here this time of year. And there is also the trademark Aluminum Core inside the device for structural rigidity.
We’ve seen Nokia devices before capable of capturing OZO audio aka 360 degree spatial audio recording. But the Nokia XR20 is also capable of also playback. So it utilizes two speakers one at the bottom of the device and one at the top and they can go up to 96 decibels of loudness. So in theory they should be very loud and give you very nice rich sound.
As for media creation Nokia mobile ditched the gimmicky 2 MegaPixel Depth and Macro sensors and instead opted for just two useful cameras on the back. They also added a Dual tone flash as well as a standard led flash and both of them can switch on simultaneously to provide you with a very bright torch. That’s quite cool and also quite useful if you want to do outdoor activities with this phone.
Battery Life and Charging
As i mentioned Numerous times one of my favorite features of the X10 and X20 has been their battery life. In comparison the Nokia XR20 offers a 4630mAh battery capacity which should last you up to two days of usage. But best of all wireless charging is finally back. The Nokia XR20 offers QI wireless charging at 15W.
The Nokia XR20 is designed to stay with you for as long as possible. And this translates in some of the extra features. The phone is capable of 5G and it also promises three years of OS updates and four years of security updates.
It also has USB 3.0 type-C capable of up to five gigabits per second of transfer speeds. It also offers the timeless 3.5 millimeter headphone jack and an SD card slot for storage expansion and comes with almost every type of sensor.
You’ll need as you can tell I’m pretty excited about this one it’s a very unique device that will surely generate hype for the brand and it also focuses on the core strengths that Nokia mobile can currently offer. In my opinion this is probably their most ambitious device since the Nokia 9 pure view. This time though it focuses on what makes the Nokia Brand.
