Apple promised the AirPods Pro beta firmware would be available sometime this summer at this year’s WWDC, and this week the software has been quietly added to the “More Downloads” section of Apple’s Developers website.

According to Apple:

Installed on your AirPods Pro, the beta software cannot be removed. Your unit will continue to run this software until a non-beta updated version of the software is released. In the meantime, you will automatically receive any additional beta software updates, provided you have activated your AirPods Pro to receive them using the steps below.


First of all, and here we go to the requirements, keep in mind that for your AirPods to install and use this new firmware you need to have a Mac with Xcode 13 beta, an iPhone with iOS 15 beta 15 and a set of AirPods Fully loaded pro.

First, you’ll need to install a configuration profile on your iPhone, then pair your AirPods Pro with your iPhone, and then use Xcode to allow your AirPods Pro to receive beta software updates.

  • Connect your iPhone to Mac.
  • Launch Xcode 13 beta on your Mac.
  • On the iPhone, go to Settings > Scheduler and choose Prerelease Firmware Beta.
  • Find your AirPods Pro in the list of paired devices and choose them to enable automatic beta software updates.
  • Read and follow the onscreen instructions to receive beta software updates. Please be patient; it may take up to 24 hours to receive and install these updates.

As mentioned above, this first beta release brings Space Audio to FaceTime and Ambient Noise Reduction.
