The new Honor Magic3 and Magic3 Pro were officially announced this Thursday and promise to attack the high-end market. Despite the presentation in China, the manufacturer guarantees that a global launch is planned, although no official date has been set. This duo is also joined by a Pro+ version, which brings some upgrades to the rear cameras.
The Honor Magic3 series is assumed to be a competitor to the Samsung Galaxy S21 and Xiaomi Mi 11 lines, and for that, they come with the new high-end Snapdragon 888+ processor and promise superior video recording, thanks to the IMAX Enhanced certification for video recording.
Honor Magic3 and Magic3 Pro: a premium design and packed camera module
It is not difficult to see, by the design of the Honor Magic3 and Magic3 Pro, that we are dealing with special smartphones. These terminals have glass front and rear panels and an aluminum frame, with a circular camera module that marks the entire landscape at the rear with its circular shape.
This camera module is specially packed and promises to give the best smartphones of 2021 a fight. Both terminals come with a 50MP Sony IMX766 main camera, which is accompanied by a 64MP monochrome sensor and a 13MP wide angle. Here the Magic3 Pro also stands out for its 64MP telephoto camera with 3.5x optical zoom and up to 100x digital zoom.
As previously advanced by Honor, the new Honor Magic3 are IMAX Enhanced certified, with 3D LUT color grading and video recording in LOG format. This partnership guarantees cinematic video recording capabilities, with Honor ensuring that the LOG format, in addition to allowing an increase in image quality, also guarantees greater flexibility in editing.
Returning to the design, it is possible to notice, from the front, that we are facing a screen that curves on its sides. This OLED screen is 6.76 inches, in both versions, and a refresh rate of 120Hz, with Full HD+ resolution. These screens support 10-bit coloring and, although they extend to all ends of the smartphone, are interrupted by a semi-oval shaped camera cutout, which since it houses both a 13MP photo sensor and a ToF sensor.
The Honor Magic3 line also stands out for reaching the market with a top-of-the-range Qualcomm processor. And it’s not just any model, as it’s precisely the new Snapdragon 888+, the improved version of the Snapdragon 888 for the second half of 2021.
This processor can be accompanied by up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, with a 4,600 mAh battery providing power. Despite the large battery, Honor did not neglect charging, and the new Honor Magic3 comes with fast charging via 66W cable and 50W wireless charging.
Among other features, it is worth highlighting the IP54 certification for the Magic3 and the IP68 certification, for water and dust resistance, for the Magic3 Pro. Both have a fingerprint reader hidden in the screen, and 5G, Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth connectivity 5.2.
As for prices and configurations, the Honor Magic3 will have a base price of €899, with glass backs in black or white, as well as configurations in blue ( Blue Hour ) and gold ( Golden Hour ), with a leather finish. The Magic3 Pro, in turn, will be available from €1,099 euros and has the same color settings as the “non-Pro” version, with the exception of the Blue Hour version
Honor Magic3 Pro Plus: the flagship of the high-end line
In its new high-end line, Honor has decided to include an ultra exclusive and ultra premium version as well . This is the Honor Magic3 Pro+, which in addition to ensuring the features that make the other two models very appealing, also adds improvements to the cameras and touches to the design.
Starting at the end, Honor dubs this design iconic, with the camera module moving from being circular to a hexagon shape. with Nano Ceramic construction, which should improve the durability of this back panel. It is also possible to notice the stripes that cover the rear vertically, with a matte area.
As for the cameras, this is where the big difference is found compared to the other Magic3 versions. The Honor Magic3 Pro+ replaces the Sony IMX766 sensor with a superior Sony IMX700 1/1.28”, also 50MP, but with a pixel size of 1.22um, f/1.9 aperture and a 23mm lens, also supporting Full Pixel Octa PD AutoFocus.
Also the wide angle is improved compared to other versions, as here we find a 64MP 1/2″ sensor, with f/2.4 aperture. There’s also the addition of an 8×8 dToF sensor and the monochrome and telephoto sensors shared with the Pro version.
As for the remaining specification list, it remains intact compared to the other versions of the Magic3 series, with the Snapdragon 888+ highlighted and running Android 11 and the Magic UI 5 interface from the factory.
